The Lone Pine Hotel in Penang is one of the oldest hotels that can still be found in the Batu Ferringhi Beach. An exclusive hotel as it retained the rustic charm of the old world.
The low, two-storey buildings with their wide veranda, plantation shutter, large airy rooms and the sweeping lawns dotted with deck chairs and shaded by stately willowy Casuarina, in other words, a typical colonial feel you won't find easy anymore in Malaysia.
It was truly a delightful find to discover two storey high building rather the modern box like high rise hotels, says one guest.
Here the guest rooms faces the sea and are thoughtfully spread out over almost 4 acres of serene landscaped gardens, affording guests unsurpassed serenity and privacy. With such vastness, only 50 rooms are built in three different locations and are shaded by a veil of graceful Casuarina trees.
Built in 1948, Lone Pine Hotel was the first hotel in Batu Ferringhi, Penang. A bungalow owned by the McKearn family was later bought over by some Chinese with the intention of operating a family-run hotel on Batu Ferringhi.
The story goes that the name comes from one lone Casuarina tree in the compound of the bungalow which was mistaken for a lone pine tree.
Since 1948, it was a great place for guests escaping the cold winters. Most of the guests are regulars as they loved the tranquility and serenity the hotel offers.
It is indeed rare to find a hotel like the Lone Pine Hotel in Penang which is build to comfort the guest in such way.
We chatted with some guests. The reasons why they preferred Lone Pine Hotel were simple: its old world charm setting and the space and tranquility they were given makes it unique.
Don't get me wrong, the hotel was in its full occupancy when we got there, but the vastness allow the guests not to knock into each other as they take their siesta or plain reading in the sun.
It seems convenient to just walked out of the terrace courtyard and sun basked right in front of your room. Is it not lovely place? Book the hotel now! We found almost all guest rooms open out to a terrace balcony or private courtyard.
Accommodating families of five to six seem possible here and for couples on their second honeymoon, it is most ideal as the open beaches to walk and enjoyed the beach fun.
It was great to see guests lazing in hammocks in the shade of tall Casuarina trees. Some were cooling off in the refreshing waters of the swimming pool. Others were pampering themselves with an invigorating massage under open blue skies.
Some more active guests were saddling up at the paddock and were engaged in popular water sports activities along the beach.
I honestly loved the choices of rooms. You cannot go wrong with only two stories, don't you think so? The only difference would be if you book the guest rooms on the ground floors, you have separate courtyard and veranda.
It is so great when you wake up and open the the door that leads you to the private veranda. The beach is only a minute walk away! How would you feel to wake up, open the window and breath the fresh breeze of the open sea in front of you?
I bet you would love it too! Depending on the rooms you booked, it comes with 2 single beds or 1 or 2 king size bed. And for some traveling with the family, the deluxe suite is a real bargain.
It comes with a pantry, a second room, a beautifully set sitting lounge all facing the sea. The staff radiated such a cheerfulness and warmth you want to experience on a holiday.
We had a lovely time in the hotel and I am so glad we found it as it wasn't an easy find! Maybe the front side of the hotel is not attractive, but boy, once inside the world changes!
I wouldn't want the front side of the hotel changed as then too many people would have discover this hotel.
The Lone Pine Hotel in Penang can accommodate to 300 people. The hotel its own wedding planners team to help you plan your big day and a great choice to have a honeymoon there too.
Looking at the beautiful clean lined landscape, it seems an excellent choice for business meeting and family function. And for your wedding? I can't think of a nicer place to have your most important day in your life!
What else can I tell you? Nothing really except one thing: when you come to Penang, this hotel, of all hotels, is my favorite. It's a great value for a great price. Is it the lovely place? Book the hotel now!
